Q. What is a spotsticker?
A. It is a 1/8, 3/16,or 1/4 oz lead head jig with a barb to hold
the worm on.
Q. How do you fish it?
A. On spinning tackle with light line 8 or 10 pound test is my
preference with a 7 foot medium action rod, it can be fished with
baitcasting equipment also.
Q. Where do you fish it?
A. Anywhere you fish standard jigs, spinnerbaits, Carolina rigs,
texas rigged worms and crankbaits.
Q. Is there anything specific that
separates the spotsticker form other jigheads?
A. If there is I would have to say it is the hook, it is a little
larger than the hooks you will find in the magazines , but don’t let
this be misleading, the 4/0 hook is about the size of say a 2/0 owner
worm hook but has a wide enough gap for good hook ups and less fish to
come unbuttoned.
Q. Will it catch big fish?
A. Yes! My partner and I have caught more fish over 4 pounds in
the last 4 years than ever before, I have caught an 8 pound largemouth
and numerous spots in the 3 to 51/2 pound range on Logan Martin, lay ,
Mitchell and several pay to fish lakes as well.
Q. What is your favorite size and
color worm?
A. I like the 3/16 oz with a 4/0 hook and Kudzu or Gourd green
finesse by zoom.
Q. What type of line do you prefer?
A. 8 or 10 pound p line cx premium.
Q. Does the spotsticker really work?
A. Yes, Go to the Bass home fishing page on the internet and pull
up Logan Martin, lay, Martin and read some reports for yourself and
also see the May issue of bassmaster on martin and you will see that
second place Kyle mabry was fishing the head. Also look at the Wal
Mart BFL on Martin and 1st on the co angler side , fifth ,
eighth and big fish was on the spotsticker and in the M1 in Mobile
this year 22 nd and 49 places on the jig head.
Q. Do you fish it all the time?
A. No- I like throwing other baits like everyone else, but it is
my go to bait when I need a bite.
Q. Can you win tournaments on the
head?
A. Yes, especially in cold front conditions, and you will be
surprised at the times you will cull a small fish with a three pounder
at 1:00 in the afternoon.
Q. Why don’t you paint the head?
A. My partner and I think that the unpainted head gets some reflex
or reaction bites because of the slight flash the head gives off
falling thru brush or when first skipped under a dock.
Q.How do the bass bite?
A. 90% of the time your rod will just load up and you think it is
on a rock and then the rock pulls back or moves.
Q. Can a child catch fish on it?
A. My boy just turned 7 and Glen’s son is 5 and both of them have
caught a good many fish with the head including Logan's best day of 6
spots that went 13.9 and followed the next week end with 8 spots and
the best 5 going about 9 pounds. It is truly simple to fish and can
spoil any angler in time.
Q. Is it versatile?
A. Yes, you can insert in a tube bait, you can expose the hook on
sandbars, you can fish it at night on rock piles , around grass
points, skip docks and probably several more ways with some thought
and a little effort on the anglers part.
Q. IS IT A MIRACLE BAIT?
A. NO! it is a way to catch some fish, It is not the way to fish.
I do not think fisherman should sale out their arsenal of tackle but
only make this a tool of the trade and use it when needed.
Q. How does the spotsticker and
Fred’s head compare?
A. First I will say that the Fred’s head started us off and gave
us ideas, both baits has a place and I think as far as heavy cover
fishing the Fred’s head is very good, Our bait has a light wire hook
and is more suited to light line, I think both heads work in all types
of conditions and a few of each would be a good move for an angler
that is looking for an edge.
