ConditionsSlight overcast in the morning with 3-5 mphs winds with a high in the mid 80's ReportDad and I fished the Alabama Family Anglers tournament today out of Decatur Boat Harbor. We caught fish early in the grass on Spotsticker Spinnerbaits in shad colors with a glimmer blue skirt and silver tandem blades. The fish liked the bait slow rolled over the milfoil in the Decatur flats. After that quit we went down river and fished the spotsticker and finesse worm. We caught some more fish on this rig fishing deeper banks with laydowns on them. We also caught 2 on a jig and broke one off on a tree top with a brush hog. We ended up winning the SR division with 8.8 lbs and big fish of 3.92.

ConditionsFog early with overcast skies and no wind ReportFinally got out this morning for awhile, fished from 6 to 8:30 am staying in the mid lake area between Cedar Creek and Spring Creek. Started in the weeds on the main river with pink and yellow zoom trick worms picking up 4 fish, best weed fish 2 lbs. Caught 8 off piers and boat houses and 3 off a grassy point using spotstickers with netbait pumpkin pepper green and muscadine finesse worms. A mix of spots and LM from a couple of short fish to 2 1/2 lbs, best 5 in the 10 lb range. All the fish came from 4 to 8 feet of water on or just off the main river. The fishing seems to be picking up somewhat and there is a bumper crop of May flies this morning. It would be a great time to take a kid fishing anywhere the May fly hatches are taking place, the bream are tearing them up and a few bass are working around the hatches as well.

ConditionsSlight breeze, cloudy early, clearing as the morning wore on. ReportFished this morning from about 5:45 to 9:00 am, Surface temperature 78 early, with just a slight breeze. Water is still clear as we have not got any of the rain that keeps being predicted. Fished creeks in the mid lake area this morning hitting weed beds early with pink trick worms, green pumpkin lizard and black frog. Caught 3 out of the weeds with a couple of missed fish, Had 1 on the trick worm and 2 on the frog, also missed a couple more on the frog. Hard not to jerk when they roll on it, but you just have to hold back until you feel the fish. No fish on the lizard this morning. best fish out of the weeds in the 2 lb range. Moved to boat houses and piers in 6 to 10 feet of water that had brush around them with 3/16 spotstickers, netbait watermelon red and zoom gourd green finesse worms, throwing up shallow and working it back out to the brush, picking up another 8 fish with a mix of LM and spots, from a couple of short fish to 2 lbs

ConditionsWarm with a slight breeze till late afternoon then calm ReportFished this afternoon from a little after noon until around 5. Had the pleasure to fish with a friend, Warren Wyman a member of the Crown Royal fishing team. Warren wanted to catch some spots today and do a little fun fishing for a change of pace from the tour and promotions grind before he had to head out for more promotions and up to Beaver Lake for his next tournament. We launched from Okamo's and fished a few points on the main river in that area to begin with. We picked up a dozen + fish off points with 3/16 oz spotstickers with zoom gourd green, green pumpkin finesse worms and pumpkin speed craws along with a few of fish on spooks when we would see a fish chase a shad on top. We tried traps and pointers on them with no takers, but did take a few fish on the spook.
We decided to head down river and try some of the points in creeks below the narrows where I had caught a few fish yesterday. Fishing the same baits, we caught another dozen + fish from the lower end of the lake on points in creeks. What was really odd today, is we only caught 3 or 4 spots out of all the fish we caught and the rest were LM. From short fish, to fish in the 2 lb range. One of the few spots we caught today hit the spook 3 times before it finally nailed it and it was our best spot, a real fat 2 lb fish that looked like a football. We missed as many bites this afternoon as we caught. The fish would just load up on the jig and worm but when you set the hook you would just miss them. We finally figured out to just let them have it a second or two longer than you normally would, then you could stick them. The majority of our fish this afternoon came out of 4 to 15 feet of water on rocky points.

Conditions32 degrees at daylight with slight breeze and warming into the 60's. ReportI fished Lay on Saturday morning from 6:00 - 10:00 to take a break from the Tenneessee River. Alabama Power had the current running first thing so I started throwing the Spotsticker Jighead and a finesse worm. Caught 10 on this rig by 9:00. 7 of those fish were largeheads and 3 were spots. The largest spot was 2.5lbs and I had 3 largemouth in the 2 lb range. The fish were on points, rocks and wood cover. Started flipping a jig in the grass after that and boated a 5lber and a 3lber. Had to leave at 10 to let someone see the truck I have for sell. Man it is tough to leave when they are biting. Good Fishing. Todd Hamilton

ConditionsSunny and breezy ReportFished Lay this morning with my neighbor, we left out around 7:30 and came in a little after 11. Beautiful day to get out, little cool early then warming up nicely. Water is clear, surface temperature 56 - 58. We fished the lower end of the lake today hitting boat houses, piers and secondary points in creeks. We ended up catching 12 fish with a mix of spots and LM, from a couple of short fish to a 2 1/2 lb spot which was our best fish this morning. All our fish today came from 3 to 12 feet of water. All but 2 came on a 3/16 oz spotsticker and zoom gourd green finesse worms. One came on a shad rap and the other on a brown finesse jig with a speed craw trailer.

No wind at all early, with it picking up after the sun burned the fog off. Fished the mid lake area. Caught 7 fish this morning, two on a white spinner bait, two on shad colored shad rap and three on a 3/16 oz spotsticker with zoom pumpkin finesses worms. Had a mix of LM and spots, best fish was a 3 lb 10 oz LM which came on the spinner bait with a couple more LM in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lb range. 2 lbs was my best spot today. All the fish came from 3 to 10 feet deep, the spots all came off one point and the LM came from around piers, boat houses and weed beds.

ConditionsSunny high 60 low around 45 ReportLogan and Myself launched at Wind Creek today. The bite started quick with both of us getting a keeper largemouth early and then we went a while without a bite. The bite did pick up afeter 10:00 am however and we picked off 10 keeper spots and one 3 lb largemouth. We caught two on crankbaits and the remainder on spotsticker jigheads and worms in gourd green, green pumpkin and red bug. The fish were holding tight to wood in depths of 2 to 12 foot of water depending on the area of the lake. Fished from Wind Creek to Madwin Creek. Best 5 about 9 or 10 pounds. God Bless and Good Fishing !

ConditionsBreezy and overcast ReportWith the break between the rainy days and wind lately, I went out today from 11 am to 1:30 pm. Naturally as soon as I left the boat house the sun went away and the wind started to pick up. I fished the mid section of the lake again today, fishing the same pattern as last week. Piers, points and brush piles in 6 to 14 feet of water. Caught all my fish again today on a 3/16 oz spotsticker with zoom pumpkin and green pumpkin speed craws. I ended up catching 9, with a mix of spots and LM, from 1 + to my best fish today, a 3 lb 11 oz LM. Best 5 today in the 13 to 14 lb range.
The speed craws have caught the majority of my bigger fish of late, but I also have caught some decent fish on the finesse worm as well. I have been Texas rigging both the finesse worm and speed craw and use the 3/16 oz jig with the wide gap 4/0 570 hook for both. The fish have been hitting real light, pay particular attention to your line when the worm or craw is falling, a lot of the bites just feel soggy like you have moss on it or something, sometimes it is just a heavy feeling or the line just starts moving off.
The color plastics I have had my best luck with if the water is clear or close to it has been, gourd green, watermelon, green pumpkin or pumpkin. If the water has some color to it and depending to what degree it is stained, I have been switching to black, black and blue, plum or red bug.

ConditionsRain and 45 degrees ReportIt is nice to get back on the lake even though it was raining and about 45 degrees ! Our company had worked an ice storm in the Carolina's and it delayed us from getting on the pond much of January. This report is special for me, On February 14 1980 I caught what then was the largest bass I had ever caught a 6lb largemouth from a farm pond on the smallest beetle spin made ! That was 24 years ago ! Last night Logan had said he did not want to fish , so this morning I did not wake him and left out for Lake Martin, When Logan (8 YRS) woke up he called a little more than upset, I was over half way to Martin and told him I would turn around and come get him. After turning around and picking him up and starting back to Martin I decided to turn back around and go to Logan Martin since much of the morning was gone and being Valentines which also happens to be the day My wife and I got married ! ( YOU KNOW THE STORY ) Anyway Logan and Me went and got breakfast and headed to lakeside, The bite was slow early only getting a couple of bites when we eased up on a muddy point casting spotsticker jigheads and zoom finesse worms when the bite Logan has waited on happned. He set up into what seemed to be an average fish that I thought was a good spot after he got the bass close to the boat and it flashed I knew it was a good fish, Logan held it together good and let the fish pull drag and on the second pass I dipped his largest bass ever! After I quit shaking and found the scales and weighed her , She was showing over 6 pounds on the berkley digital scale. We went on and fished for a while getting 7 more keeper fish on the jighead and worm and some on a shad rap with my best fish at about 3 pounds. Logan certainly let me know he was the man today ! The bass were scattered and in various depths , His big fish came from 12 foot of water around a cedar tree and the other fish came from less than a foot to about 6 foot. Logan lost a spot last year over 5 pounds and recovered from that ok, but today he didn't lose the big one ! I am very proud of Logan as you can tell, This is a special day that not only Logan will never forget but I will forever know that his first trophy was taken with his dad on Valentines Day ! After getting home and weighing the fish on some good hanging scales that are accurate the fish weighed 6.3 and as a promise that anything over 5 would be mounted, this will go on his wall. Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsCloudy ReportLogan and I launched out of Beez wax this morning at about 6:30 and ran down to a few main river points and rock piles , the water level of course with the drawdown is low, the first point yielded a few bites and 1 keeper largemouth , the second point gave up 6 keepers in the 1-1/2 range and also big fish for the day a 4 pound largemouth , the third stop a rock pile falling from 9 foot to 20 foot gave up numbers of spots and largemouth from 10 inches to about 2 pounds, from there we went to the steam plant and fished a small cut with running water and caught one dink after another to the tune of an avg of 8 ounces per fish but it was fish ! all of the fish but two 1 pound or so keepers came on 3/16 oz spotsticker jigheads and finesse worms the other two came on Bill Norman 1/8 chart/blue crappie crankbaits . The bite was not hard on the jighead , Logan was thrown fits by the subtle bite, they were just ticking it with slight pressure , theeight year old got 5 and had 6 to come off, the good news was all six he lost were very small fish. Until next time Good Fishing and God Bless everyone !

ConditionsCloudy ReportWe did not have much time this afternoon, Logan and I launched at clear creek at about 5:00 and started out skipping boat docks, We only managed 2 fish , 1 small 12 inch spot and a 13.9 yellow cat, this thing bit at the end of a dock in 7 foot of water and at first I had thoughts of a 7 or 8 pound spot, after a few seconds I knew it was not a bass, the pull was fun , ( Larry this tops your cat. LOL ) Two friends from Pensacola that Glen had talked to earlier in the week watched as the cat made a few runs. Logan netted the fish and we weighed it on berkley digital scales. These two fish came on a spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead and worm. I dont know how the light wire hook held the fish but it did , after this we ran to a nearby flat were some shad were schooled up and occasionally a fish would bust them , we threw 1/8 oz bill norman crankbaits with small hooks and caught several decent spots before leaving , all in all it was a fun afternoon, we will try it again Saturday.

ConditionsPartly Cloudy ReportGlen , Logan and I launched this morning at paradise point, and mom said there would be some good days and bad days, well we had the best of the bad days today, We fished points, rock piles and river ledges with numerous bites and continuous misses, Logan on the otherhand capatalized on his bites and put three good 2 pound keepers in the boat while Glen and Myself struggled in fine fashion only getting 2 a piece, We did take lessons very well, took the trash talk , licked our wounds and went home. Of course we will say that we let the little man win ! Ha -- The fish that were caught came from about 18 foot of water on a rock pile and were slow to bite, they all came on spotsticker jigheads and zoom finesse worms in gourd green and green pumpkin, The past several trips we have had good current and the fish were pretty active , today seemed like little current and a tougher bite for us, Maybe Next time, our congrats to Logan , He spanked us Good ! ConditionsSunny ReportWell, We got back from vacation in TN. Wednesday , The wife and children enjoyed Gatlinburg and as always it is nice to be home , of course my vacation started today with a trip to Lay, Logan and I met Larry Rosser and The Tennessee Outdoor's folks at the Lake to see if we could locate a few fish, it was slow on the first point with only a few fish and a couple of keepers , the second stop picked up a little with 6 or 8 quick bites and about 7 keeper fish, both of these areas where points with grass , some rock a couple of brush piles and a boat dock or two, The fish were in about 6 to 8 foot of water on the brush piles in front of the docks, we did not seem to have current early and the fish were not stacked up like the last few weeks. Our third stop was a rock pile that fell from about 9 to 20 feet , the fish were on it pretty good , we caught numbers of keeper spot and largemouth on this area, Logan had a good day catching about 9 and he lost several fish, Glen was upriver and called me on the cell phone and said the water had been turned on and had good current, and had caught several good fish, We ran up to about the steam plant and fished some shoal areas , We caught several more decent fish letting the bait pull accross the rock and the spots would just nail it, Glen of course showed off the good fish he had caught, These fish were in about 12 foot of water, We then noticewd fish schooling in a small cut and upon trying it out discovered they could also be caught, they were from small to about 2 pounds. all in all it was a good day , Buzzy with Tennessee outdoors , Larry Rosser and the camera man all caught fish, although mind you they were not monster spots or largemouth they still pulled good. The fish were caught on various size spotsticker jigheads and finesse worms in a bunch of different colors, I dont think color has as much to do with it as it mainly is the presentation, line size, maybe technique, and a little bit of luck ! I aslo had a chance to meet Mike Morton who stopped and talked for a bit, he said he had caught some fish early as well, and not having current early seemed to hurt but I am sure when the water came on the bite picked up for him. I think early from 3 to 6 feet of water and as the sun climbs just move out deeper and you can catch fish all day, and maybe skip or flip some docks also. I would also like to thank Buzzy and Larry , Logan had a blast and enjoyed talking to you guy's, I think he feels a little older than 8, the way ya'll treated him, he thinks he is Kevin Van Dam now ! Until Friday Good Luck and God Bless !

ConditionsCloudy ReportThis report will sound like a broken record but here goes, Logan and I launched at paradise point about 6:30, we went straight to the points we have been fishing for several weeks, last night I put all my rods but two in the rod locker and had decided I was going to start with the spotsticker and fish two types of worms, should have only had one rod out, did not need the other one. as usual the bite was fast and furious early we had largemouth and spots mixed on the first point, Logan boated 6 with his largest at 2.6 and two 2.2 largemouth , he lost 4 or 5 including a decent spot. we moved to the next point and caught 6 largemouth , all about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds, we then went to some deeper water on a rock pile and caught a few there with my best fish a 2.7 largemouth. The fish are feeding heavy on shad , we had some current and they were sitting behind rocks and stumps in various depths, the better fish came in about 7 to 10 foot of water, on several occasions the fish surfaced, Logan would throw topwater and I tried a mini me spinnerbait with no luck, it was the only time I got a different rod out, you could throw the jighead where the fish surfaced and almost as soon as it hit the water our rod would bow, there are alot of 11 and 12 inch fish caught doing this but you weed out those and get a keeper pretty regular, these fish would not win a tournament most of the time but they are fun to catch, the best 5 @ about 11 pounds. All the fish were caught on the spotsticker 3/16 oz 574 with a 3/0 hook and gourd green finesse was the color again today. I must say , that being able to take Logan and see him cast, get bit and set up on a fish even though they are not monsters is all I need , I have more fun with him , It is very competitive with the youngster , he is trying to outfish me everytime we hit the water and sometimes he does and ya know that is ok with me. Take a kid fishing or let them take you , Til Next week Good Fishing and God Bless all !

ConditionsPartly Cloudy, occasional shower ReportI was invited Thursday night to go fishing with friends Larry Rosser and Mike Cooley and of course took them up on the offer, We met about 5:30 and started on some select ledges, fishing was not great but not bad either, we caught about 20 spotted bass ranging from small to about 2 pounds or so, I had one fish that pulled off that would be 3 or 4 pounds, Larry showed me the spotsticker was a multi species bait, catching a couple huge catfish one about 12 pounds the other about 7 and Mike boated a small crappie, we did have some nice keeper spots though, the fishing picked up around rock piles and boat docks and after about 8:00 we boated 13 to 15 fish, I had a great time and enjoyed the fellowship with these guy's as much as anything, I look forward to another trip and hope that it is soon. Larry know's quiet a bit about Logan Martin , if you are looking for a trip give him a call and I know he can set you up , Saturday I will probably go back to Lay and post about it then. All the fish today came on various spotsticker heads and worms, I was using 3/16 574 3/0 with gourd green, Larry and Mike fished 3/16 574 2/0 and 3/0 with Mannns dragon worms in several colors, Mike also caught a couple on fat albert grubs, truly had blessed time with these men. ConditionsCloudy ReportLogan and I decided to go to Lay this morning and it was a good choice, cloud cover and patchy rain with a good stain to the water and a little current made it a perfect choice, the fish mixed largemouth and spots were stacked on 2 points and 1 rock pile like corde wood , We got started quickly within the first few cast we were boating fish on the edge of a grass lined point with some scattered rock, all the fish were not keepers alot of 11 to 11-1/2 inch fish with a good keeper every few cast. Logan stuck 9 fish and got 5 of those in the boat, we had 14 keepers that ranged from 12 inches to 2 pounds being the largest, The fish were stocky and gorged with shad, they were laying on the downriver side of points and rock piles and would leave no doubt that you had a bite, it seemed a little like stripe fishing , like the got a running start and hit the bait going upstream. I tried a crawdaddy jig and a spinnerbait while the fish were in the peak of the bite and Logan tried a lucky craft crankbait, we both gave these lures a good chance, when I layed them down and picked the jighead back up , I caught keeper fish , Logan also got a keeper after going back to the worm , I think it may be just confidence in the small stuff. All of the fish came on zoom gourd green finesse rigged texas on 3/16 574 3/0 spotsticker heads painted green pumpkin or brown, I dont think the painted heads made a difference , Last week we cast heads that were not painted and caught fish, and did the same on Logan Martin Friday, they do add color and match the worms preety good though. Hope everyone enjoyed the fourth ! Until next week Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsMostly Cloudy ReportLogan and I Launched at Lakeside this morning and ran down to clear creek, The main river was a heavy stain but very fishable, We hit rock piles and boat docks and lucked into a good stringer of spotted bass, I noticed a huge school of shad with about 2 inchers in them in working in front of two docks with a small cut in between the two docks , every minute or so I would see boils of some type of fish in the shad, We started casting to the outer post in front of the first dock and I caught a good keeper, this was repeated on 4 other cast,I moved the boat around to the right side of the dock and worked it in the opposite direction and caught 3 more keepers with the largest about 2.8 , we then moved to the adjacent dock and picked up 3 good fish with the best spot at 4.5 , after boating this fish and preparing to get back in position Logan set up on a monster spot and did everyhting right from detecting the bite to setting the hook, the only thing wrong was the fish pulled of after two jumps and two hard runs , the eight year old was to say the least upset, the fish I think was larger than the one I had just boated , it looked to be at least a 5 pounder, I sure would have liked to weighed that one, after a short discussion with Logan and a few tears he was good to go back fishing, I told him ( for anyone interested ) that he got the best the fish had to offer and enjoyed the fight and that he was going to release her anyway. for some reason that seemed to work. I truly hate it for my son he wanted that fish bad ! Oh well, if the good lord is willing there will be a next time. all of the fish today came on the 3/16 oz 574 spotsticker with a kudzu zoom finesse in 7 to 12 foot of water on the outside edge of the piling on boat docks, 10 pound p line with spinning equipment , for exception of the big fish Logan stuck it was on a white fat albert grub with the hook exposed reeling as close to the piling as possible, the fish hit him even with the last post on the dock. Well , we will try it Saturday, Happy 4th, Good Luck and God Bless our great country and people who died to keep us free !

Conditionscloudy , sunny and cloudy again 80 degrees ReportLogan and I ventured down to Lay this morning and found the fishing a little tougher than Friday, We started on the same locations as yesterday and I figured a spinnerbait would be the answer early, I was of course wrong , so we went to the spotsticker and after about 2 hours at the edge of the grass on the two points and one bite, I was scratching my head , Ran up on Glen and the story was the same , he had one keeper early and was searching, I ran down to a rock pile and cast the spotsticker into about 9 foot of water and pulled it out to 25 foot, we found largemouth in about 18 foot hugging a big rock, we were able to catch 12 keeper fish , I do mean keeper fish , the largest about 1.4 , we also caught a couple of spots mixed in , Logan had 4 keepers today and did quite well on the deeper fish with the finesse rig, we later ran to some river ledges and fished them with only one bite. The color today was green gourd zoom finesse with the 3/16oz 574 3/0 hook with the usual 7 foot medium action rod , spinning reel and 10 pound p line. The bite again like yesterday was light and light pressure was about all you felt, that is why I was impressed by my eight year old quickly idenifying the bite and setting up, with each trip he get's better and better, his ability to accuratley cast and hit targets and rod control are very good for his age, I am a little concerned by age 10 he may be taking me to school. ConditionsCloudy ReportLogan and I got an early start this morning , the eight year old was in my room at 4:00 a.m. ready to go, I sushed him back to bed since we are about 45 minutes to the ramp , I figured on leaving at 5:30, that worked out good , put in at paradise point and made a short run, I started with topwater (swimming Lizard, sammy , buzz bait ) Logan started with the spotsticker and finesse worm and pretty quick at that his first cast to the grass line was 3lb spot, two cast later a 2 pounder and a couple cast after that he had a keeper come off, I stayed with the topwater for a while, with not one strike. Well folks when a n eight year old is given you the down the road about how good he is and he"s whipping your butt, you will change over and try to catch up, I did and we picked off 4 more fish in the 2lb range and then moved to another point, we caught 6 good keepers there with another 3 pound fish. the fish were in 2 to 5 foot of water near the grass but actually holding on some rock , we used gourd green and kudzu finesse worms and also Mann's dragon finesse in Kudzu, Logan had one on a fat albert grub and two more come off doing this. all the fish caught was with a 3/16 oz spotsticker jighead with the 574 3/0 hook. spinning tackle with 10 pound p line and medium action rods. The bite was light and almost every fish you would only feel spongy pressure and maybe see your line jump or move slightly. Hope this helps someone pick up a few on Saturday, My boy has already let me know he would be back on the lake in the morning. Good Luck and God Bless !

ConditionsCool ReportI fished a wildcat tournament at wedowee Saturday night with good friend Roger Timms, The lake had a stain from the recent rains and we fished under a pretty good cold fron for the month of June with Temp's in the low 5o's at around midnight , the fishing started out slow with two fish before dark, at about 9:30 we had narrowed down the depth and type of structure and began catching a mixed bag of spots and largemouth , the fish were on the inside of timbered points in 12 to 15 foot of water tight to timber, we fished spotsticker crawdaddy jigs, 8 inch zoom worms, spotsticker spinnerbaits and occasionally cast the jighead and worm, the majority of the bites came on worms with a 3/16 oz weight , we caught 12 decent fish with 2 over 16 inches that went about 4 pounds, I think about 12.5 won with 9.0 second and 8 pound bag was third. This was my first night outing this year , fish did not seem to be on the humps and to my surprize they were not on the rock ledges unless they had wood , Wedowee usually gets a little better about mid july for me, I can say the quality of the fish in the 14 and 15 inch range looked alot healthier and the length compared to weight was more in line with average than in recent years, if you are looking for a good tournament on Saturday night be at 48 launch around 6:00 and see Jeff Carpenter , $30.00 is the fee and take a steak with you, they are just some good ol boys and cook after the tournament in the parking lot, and do a little socializing, you will not meet a guy down there that will not pass out a little info. Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsRain, Cloudy, sunny, a complete mixture ReportI launched at Lakeside this morning about 5:45, first stop was the Grass at Country Club Estates, with spinnerbaits, trick worms and buzz baits, had one bite on a trick worm, I made a couple of stops on points working back down with no takers on topwater, I then moved to a small rock pile where I boated a limit in 10 to 15 minutes, all small keeper spots, worked out a point near the rock pile and culled 3 fish , swung accross the river and fished a section of river ledge and had a nice fish pull off, picked up a couple more keepers on ledges, started skipping docks about 11:00 and caught several fish that were no size, I did loose two more quality fish while skipping, I pulled out a DD22 and went to some deep humps with a goose egg to show for this , I fished a section of the old avondale lake and caught a couple small fish. I caught about 18 today with the size being relatively small , I did have a couple nice spots though, The fish were caught on spotsticker jigheads rigged with fat albert grubs ,gourd green finesse worms, and green pumkin finesse, most of the keeper fish were in less than 5 feet of water relating to rock with a dropoff near by, I did catch a couple on lucky craft's pointer. until next trip good luck and God Bless !

ConditionsWindy- partly sunny Reportn had a baseball game this morning and we decided about 3:30 this evening to launch at Clear Creek and fish until dark, We started skipping the spotsticker 3/16 oz and finesse worm under and around docks, it was not long until we hooked up, I got a 2 lb ,largemouth and several spots and Logan had to get in on the action , he picked up 3 spots and had 2 come off at the boat, we caught 10 or so doing this and then about 7:00 moved to a rock pile , we got bit nearly every castr with keeper spots about a pound and Logan had one that he could not do anything with that hit his worm and went south , he hooked into a big spot that had no intention of being landed, it looked like maybe a 4 or 5 pounder, he did everything right except catch the fish , the fish a had made a couple of runs and then headed right back into the rocks and frayed the line I suppose and while making another run ended up breaking off, I would have thought the 8 year old would have been a little upset, But his theory was a simple one , he reeled in said tie me a jighead on daddy and as I done as instructed he said I lost him but I got the best he had ! Not bad for a short trip on Saturday evening , all of our fish were on the 3/16 oz spotsticker with gourd green finesse worms and logan was using green pumpkin, the fish were in less than 8 feet of water around the docks and about 12 feet on the backside of the rock pile. until next week Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsPartly Sunny ReportI launched at paradise point this morning around 6:00 and moved to the grass , swimming a zizard, jig and tossing a buzzbait hopeing to get a couple good largemouth, Well I may as well admit it, I must be completly spoiled with Alabama's spotted bass because I did not get the first bite for 2 hours, I decided to put away the heavy tackle and go fish the way I am comfortable, although I dont catch a lot of huge stringers I normally can pick up a few of those pesky spots, Started fishing a point with grass and a few softball sized rock, current was ripping around the point , I positioned the boat into the current and held it in about 14 foot of water and threw to the grass line with a 3/16 oz 574 3/0 long shank jighead with a green pumpkin worm , the current would wash the jighead across the rock and the spots would nail it almost sticking themselves, I was able to boat 13 in 3 hours with a few good keeper fish and several small ones , They sure pull hard on the coosa river chain, I think a coosa river spot at 3 pounds would pull a smallmouth up the creek. I hit several more points in this manner and picked up a fish here and there along with a few largemouth. Over the next few weeks skipping docks will work well on Logan Martin as well as Lay, the rock piles and river ledges will also start to produce and at night the rock points and rock piles should be good , I like fishing the finesse stuff around this kind of structure all summer, again I will not have huge bags but will have alot of fun ! Good Fishing and God Bless and ya"ll check us out at www.spotsticker.com , we would like your photo's and stories if you are willing to share helpful info to your fellow fisherman.

ConditionsMostly Cloudy ReportMan it was good to be back on the water , The last few weeks with all the storms have kept us busy as I am sure for line crews in the southeast , well on with the report , I had the oppurtunity to fish the Mayer Electric tournament on Martin today with Steve Hicks employed with Mayer in Anniston , Alabama , We launched at Wind Creek under cloudy conditions, The topwater bite was slow, got a largemouth and missed a couple more on a pop r , we would later cull that largemouth, fished spinnerbaits with no bites in the stained water , Steve fished a texas rigged lizard and boated 4 or 5 keepers , I went to the spotsticker and fished rock piles and points, for most of the day, I did flip a crawdaddy jig and picked up 1 fish. we totaled about 16 keepers with the best 5 going 8.1 and finished 6th and cashed a check , it was tight 10.3 won , 8.8 for second , 8.7 for 3rd , 8.5 for 4th , 8.3 for 5th and our 8.1 was the cutoff at 6th , I could not weigh our big fish , the scale master did not see fit to weigh a catfish about 6 pounds caught skipping the head under docks, It was exciting for a minute or two. The fish we caught other than the topwater were holding in two different depths, We found Spots in two feet of water on golf ball szed rock with the wind blowing in on it, the fish on the rock piles and points were holding in 12 to 15 foot near the dropoff, the colors were green pumpkin and my partner used pumpkinseed. The tournament was very well organized and gave away some of the best door prizes I have ever seen at a tournament. I hope that I will be invited back next year ! Til next week Good Fishing , God Bless and may your next bass be your best one !

ConditionsPartly Cloudy ReportI had the chance to fish a tournament on Lay today put on by Segars Air Control, it was a very well put on tournament, I enjoyed the day with Mike Neighbors from Birmingham , we were able to catch a good many fish on various baits , We caught fish on the spotsticker but they were not spots , We caught about 15 keepers on the first stop with not one spotted bass, thats right all largemouth that were from a pound to pound and a half fish , the second stop yielded 3 fish and one that broke off, two of those were spots, We then hit several areas before going down river with a couple of bites , We ran down and started fishing grass trying to pick up better fish were we caught about 8 more largemouth and lost a couple of decent fish on lizards. We had about 8 pounds with 5 fish and I think 17 won the tournament, I am sure this is one of the first times to ever hit lay lake for me and not have spots that dominated my bag, not because that largemouth are not available but for the style and techniques that I choose to fish. I can say that I still had a good day on the water and spent the time with a good friend. Until next week Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsCloudy and Cool ReportLogan and I launched at Beez Wax this morning and ran down, The water was really stained and I guess you could say getting pretty muddy, We started on a point with grass and rock out off the point and picked up 6 on the spotsticker with two keepers after throwing topwater early with not one bite. I think sometimes it is better to be lucky or maybe have a friend that has located some fish that does not mind you invading his honey hole, Glen was in his boat and flagged Logan and myself over to join him catching largemouth on his spot, of course we tried to move him off the hole, it was unique, on one side of the dock Glen was catching 2 pound largemouth on virtually every cast and on the other side Logan and I were catching an occasional largemouth and a spot on most cast, We double teamed the hole and caught and released every fish back to the lake, Logan boated 13 losing only three fish today, this is the most bass the 8 year old has put in the boat on any given day and his best 5 at around 10 pounds, he was pretty excited especially after catching 6 consecutive fish with out me sticking one , and Glen and Logan argued the entire morning about which one of them had the larger stringer, I think it was a toss up ! All of our fish came on 3/16 oz spotsticker heads with Gourd Green being the best color, we did however use brown and green pumpkin painted heads with the 3/0 574 hook. The fish depths varied, The largemouth were in about 6 foot and the spots were in less than 3 foot , every few minutes they would run up shallow and feed on shad , if you did not get bit shallow you would normally get hit as you worked it off the drop, Glen also used the new 7 foot casting rod with a baitcaster and 10 pound line to prove spinning tackle is not the only way to fish the jighead and worm. We had a blast and hopefully Logan will keep progressing and by the time he is 9 , he might have to buy himself a boat, he sure likes telling me how I need to line up on an area and most of the time he's on target, He does not mind casting over your line if he thinks he can get bit. Until next trip Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsCloudy cool temps giving way to partly sunny skies ReportMy soon to be 8 year old Logan and I launched at wind creek a daylight this morning, no crowd , not but about 20 trailers in the parking lot. The weather changed from yesterday to thick clouds and a brisk wind that was blowing cold air , air temps felt like around 40, the bite was tough early, at 9 o clock we had three fish, but as the temps warmed and the sun popped out later in the day the bite picked up really well. I must do a little bragging, I am so proud of Logan and how far he has came in three years of fishing, he had missed or lost about 7 spots earlier in the day and was discouraged that he had not boated a fish, I gave him advise that I myself cannot follow, I told him not to quit to stay focused and when the bite came to execute, sounded good didn't it ! Well he must listen from 11:00 to 12:00 he caught 7 spots with his largest at 2 pounds and although he did not have his largest stringer ever it was still a good limit of fish for his best 5 went about 9 pounds. I have many days on Martin when 7 pounds seems good. We ended up catching 28 spotted bass with a couple of nice fish at 3.8 and 3.0 . and the best 5 going 12.8. The front moved the fish back early to dropoffs, not far from shallow water, we were fishing nothing banks (Sand Bar type stuff ) and they were positioned in 8 to 12 foot, when the sun broke out and Logan broke loose the fish had moved into 2 foot of water and were picking the bait up and swimming off so fast they were almost sticking thereself. We used 3/16 oz spotsticker jigheads and a wide variety of color finesse worms, Green Pumpkin seemed to be best. Until next week Good Fishing , God Bless and thank you Jesus for loving me enough to die on the cross !

ConditionsSunny ReportGlen and I had good friday off and decided to give Lay a shot, We launched at paradise point and ran out to some points, grass was pokeing thru in spots and the point had some scattered rock , we tried topwater, flukes , trickworms and swimming a white crawdaddy jig and crankbaits, Glen got one small spot on the crankbait, I thought we would do better on the topwater but I guess it was not meant to be so I went to the old reliable spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead and worm , on the same point the third time around it we found fish positioned on the mainriver side in 7 to 10 foot of water behind the rock and some stumps, we hit three such areas and caught 26 spots and 4 largemouth, Glen whipped me with quality , he had 3 fish around 3 pounds and several 2 pound fish, I had one about 21/2 and a few 2 pound spots , we also caught 7 or 8 that you could measure with a #2 lead pencil but all in all it was a good day ! Color did not seem to matter, but something that did was a new line that a fellow angler told me about, power pro line from wal mart, it is a braided line with unreal castability and it will not cut your guides, I fished it on my spinning reel (8-30) and let me tell you, just try it, the feel is great and the hookset is sure, hope the tip helps someone land a good one. Logan and I are going to try Martin on Saturday. Good fishing, God Bless and remember what Easter is all about, He loves us more than we can ever imagine!

ConditionsLow 40s - High 60 day 1
Low 48 - High 80 ReportGlen and I left out Thursday for the famed Bienville Plantation in White Springs , Florida and as usual for any long anticipated trip the weather turned sour, Air temps in Florida had been in the 8os and water temp at around 72- with the major cold front that begin passing thru on Wednesday night and Thursday the temps fell to the low 40s on Thursday- The water temp was 61 when we started Friday morning the high would barely make it into the 50s- We started with topwater with no bites, Glen went to an 8 inch worm and caught a 5 pounder on a small point, I quickly held the spot for him by throwing a rattletrap over the same area and just as fast boated a 5 pounder on the same point as ther day would progress the bite did get better- We caught 31 largemouth that ranged from a pound to the largest at about 6 1/2 pounds-- We had 12 fish over 4 pounds and Glen put on a clinic Friday afternoon when he hit 4 fish from a ten yard stretch that would go about 16 pounds-- On Saturday a much better day with temps that would see the 80s and water temps at or near 65 we figured the bass would eat it up- We of course were wrong- the cloud cover left high blue skies and a real hard bite- the first fish a 4 pounder on a spook was the only topwater bite and glen had a 5 pounder on the worm along with a few more 3 pound fish, I had the spook fish with several 3 pound fish and some smaller ones, We caught and released 15 largemouth on day 2--- The best 5 on day 1 weighed over 20 pounds and the best 5 on day 2 around 18 pounds. Plastic worms 8 inch zoom red shad and tequilla sunrise worked best, with a few fish on Flukes, Rattle traps and one on a spook, We went a week end with out catching a fish on a spotsticker, for conditions and surroundings did not dictate this type bait (aint no rocks or cedar trees ). I will have a story on our website soon with some photos and some detail you may be interested in about the plantation ( www.spotsticker.com ) on cost etc. Until next week Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsPartly Cloudy 70 degrees ReportI had the chance today to have Charles Johnson as my guest for a half day and Glen had Rodney Keith , we swapped partners about 11:00 and fished a while longer. We caught spots in about 9 to 11 foot of water off the end of flats and on the sides of points going back into pockets on a spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead and worm ( Gourd Green, Kudzu, Green Pumpkin, and Blue ) We also picked up several fish on white super flukes in the back of pockets ( Largemouth ) The average fish was about 1 1/2 pounds with 7 or 8 in the 2 pound range. The fish would just pick up the worm and start a steady pull and they would not let go. The fish we caught today were on nothing looking banks or flats with p gravel on them and they should hold this pattern for the next couple of weeks. Our next report will come from Bienville Plantation in white springs Florida where we will be Thursday of next week, Hope it is as good as the last trip ! Good Fishing and God Bless !

ConditionsSunny ReportI launched at 48 this morning, I had not been to Wedowee in a while and had heard as well as read the post on the quality and numbers being caught on the lake and decided to give it a try. I was not disapontied. I started with topwater (Sammy) had one huge explosion, She knocked the bait straight up and never came back, I tried a fluke, tube , worm and jerkbait back thru the same area on repeated cast, after an hour or so with out another bite I ran down to hunter bottoms and fished a spotsticker spinnerbait on the flats and points boating 3 in the slot, I went back thru the same area with a bubble gum fluke and caught 6 in the slot , 4 of those being largemouth, I tried a shad rap with no bites. I then went to our 3/16 oz spotsticker jighead with a finesse worm and was able to catch numbers of spots in the slot, I had 6 fish better than 16 inches and a good 4.1 spot. I will agree with some of the post i have read, this lake is getting back to the wedowee of old, I saw awesome schools of shad that were 5 or 6 inches long , just what the doctor ordered to get those fish over there fattened up, I had a blast today and will make another trip to this pond real soon. My best 5 weighed about 11 pounds which right now would probably only get you honarble mention. I can see some 20 pound stringers coming in down there over the next several weeks. Good Luck, God Bless and remember to pray for our country , leaders and troops !

ConditionsSunny- High around 72- light Wind ReportLogan and I lauched at lakeside about 6:00 this morning, He did not have school and I was off so why not fish ! We started with topwater with no takers and then spinnerbaits and crankbaits on some selected flats, caught one good keeper on a spotsticker prototype wht/chart spinnerbait. We the went to the rock ledges , points and humps, I noticed that if the wind was blowing in on the point or across the hump on the side the wind was blowing we were getting bit. Logan caught 6 good keepers and his best a 2 pound spot, we caught 19 total with a 3.8 being the largest and the best 5 at about 11 pounds, not enough to brag about but certainly fun. All but one fish came on the spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead and worm, color choice was gourd green and Logan liked the kudzu. We fished spinning tackle and 10 pound line, all of the bites came from the mouth of aqua land down to near the ledges before clear creek on the main river channell with a couple of humps in between. I also noticed the better fish started coming after 10:00. Hope this helps someone boat a few Saturday I will be in Atlanta for a church function. Until next week God Bless our country, troops , Leaders and may we soon get them back home !

ConditionsSunny ReportI fished the BFL on Martin Saturday on a perfect day, pre fished Friday and located fish on 15 or so places, I tried to locate some largemouth as well on Friday and had one fish bite a jerkbait in a pocket, I had decided by days end to get a limit of spots Saturday and then try to get a kicker fish. My partner and I started Saturday pretty quick 1st cast a 1.8 spot, I had a limit by 9:00 and fished pockets and cuts with no success, My partner still needed a limit so we would work back out on the points and he would limit, I culled three times to get 7.12 and finish 78th, My partner would have 7.3 and finish in the money and 26th , Stan Chandler from Florida was his name. Had a good time even though I did not do that well. All of our fish came on 3/16 oz spotsticker jigheads and either green pumpkin, kudzu or gourd green finesse worms except one 1.5 spot caught on a 3/8 oz spotsticker white.chartreuse titanium spinnerbait, all of the fish were relatively shallow and relateing to mostly wood with a few on rock. We will have some more info on the bfl on our website www.spotsticker.com soon. Until next time good fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsRain early , cloudy ReportI launched at Wind Creek today in a downpour, rain , rain and some more rain, It eventually stopped but stayed cloudy all day with some wind, the fish cooperated nicely also, I found fish in shallow water in mid depth ranges and also deep, I hit a lot of spots today pre-fishing for the BFL next week, I was able to catch fish on virtually every stop, The fish were stageing on points and back into pockets, I fished spinnerbaits and small crankbaits and tried a fluke in the pockets and had one bite on a spinnerbait, I caught one largemouth today about 2 pounds and the rest were spotted bass, the best 5 went about 12 1/2 pounds and all were full of eggs. All of my fish came on light tackle , spotsticker jigheads and zoom finesse worms.
I would like to put to rest a rumor that during the everstart, what my fish were caught on, I had one on a rattletrap and one on a Bill Norman crankbait and the rest came on a brown powder coated 3/16 oz spotsticker jighead and finesse worm. Not that it matters but I have been questioned about that, so I wanted to set the record straight. Martin was pretty stained and may get muddier with more rain, the water is also on the rise. Until next week Good Fishing and God Bless our country and the men and women who protect us!

ConditionsPartly Cloudy 70 degrees ReportI launched at lakeside this morning and ran to clear creek, the bite was slow in the clearer water, ran back up behind bird island, shad were all over the pocket and occasionally a fish would bust in them, I caught 6 fish all spots, 1 on a spotsticker jighjead and worm, 2 on a 1/8 oz Bill Norman crankbait and the 3 best fish on a bubble gum fluke including a 5 lb spot that looked like she would explode carring a softball in her belly. The main river is really stained but the creeks and pockets look in pretty good shape, I think some big stringers will come in this week end. Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsCloudy giving way to some sunshine ReportLogan and I went over to west point today, something different, we found some clear water down around southern harbor, the bite was tough, we caught 4 and Logan lost 1 which was as you guessed our best fish, it loked to be about a 3 pound spot, I caught 3 on a 3/16oz spotsticker jighead and finesse worm and 1 on a smokey joe rattletrap that went 2.2, the 4 fish all spots weighed 7.8 and 3 of them were 15 inches or better. enjoyed the fishing and hatted the drive. The water level was on the rise and if we have some good temps this next week the fish over there might jump in the boat to keep from being caught. until next week Good Fishing, God Bless and take a friend to church.

ConditionsCloudy, Rain, Cool Temps ReportI had the chance to fish the Everstart at Martin Feb.26 thru March 1st, We blasted off from Wind creek each day, I was very fortunate each day to draw fantastic Pro partners, on day 1 I drew M. Shepard from Florida, I was able to scratch out a 5 fish limit that weighed 5.2 on crankbaits and jigheads on day 2, I was placed with Tommy Hatfield from Florida also, I caught 4 fish early and another 4 later in the day to cull a few fish and bring 6.9 to the scales. I was in 33rd after day 1 and Moved to 8th after day 2. On day three I drew Jason Quinn from Lake Wylie SC. This guy put on a how to clinic and left my head swimming, early he had 2 keepers and I had 2 and in a short time frame he zoned in and drilled three good spots to limit, He knew he would make the cut so he ran around place to place and would let me fish to try and increase my bag, He put me on one more spotted bass to give me 3 and a 5.0 pound bag and just enough to make the top 10 cut and fish on day 4. I was paired with Ted Caldwell from Alex City, Al . I was not able to boat a fish on day 4 and would finish in 9th, It was not due to my partner he gave me all the water I needed and he caught fish, and he also finished 3rd, so bass were there and he knew how to catch em, he also had a 6 + pound largemouth. All my partners were perfect and I enjoyed my 1st Everstart tournament and hope to do it again. Glen Hamer had good tournament finishing 27th overall, we both caught most of our fish on a 3/16 oz spotsticker jighead and finesse worm. The FLW crew really work hard as do the Everstart folks and really put on a good show and I was blessed to be a part of it, until next time good fishing and God Bless!

Report The conditions are tough, cold wheather, rain and muddy water. Things that might make you want to stay home, unless you are fishing for spots on lake martin they love this wheather.. The fish are still biting on rocky points and isolated rock in 4-8 ft. some fish are being caught in deeper water. I had 2 kepers on 2-26 and 9 keepers on 2-27, all came on the spotsticker 3/16 oz 3/0 574 hook and green pumpkin finesse worm.

ConditionsPartly Cloudy , High 60s , WINDY 25 plus ReportGlen and I waited for the weather to clear and decided to head on to Martin, Launched at WIND CREEK, It lived up to its name today, Winds had to be 25 or so, The water muddied after the heavy rains overnight in some of the areas I fished yesterday and the bite was a lot tougher on us, Glen put 5 keepers in the boat and I got 1 fish, Glens best 5 went around 6 pounds. At best and on the positive side at least the air temp was in the high 60s. All 6 fish were spots on the jighead and worm, tried spinnerbaits and crankbaits thinking that we would pick a few off the wind blown points and banks but did not have a taker. Hope to make the everstart on Wednesday I was 5th on the waiting list Thursday afternoon. Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsRain, High 60s ReportI launched at wind creek this morning at around 7:00, skies were cloudy and rain was in the forecast, highs in the 60s, I had 1 fish a largemouth at about 9:30 that came in less than a foot, it was about 13 inches long, The rain set in and I hit a few rock points that fell off into deep water, I picked up a spot here and there with only three fish off one particular spot, ended the day with 9, 8 spots and 1 largemouth, best 5 at around 11 pounds with a 3 lb spot being the largest of the catch, The fish were not eating it up, but when I got a bite it was no doubt it was a fish, the 8 spotted bass came from about 7 to 12 foot of water off rock points with a 3/16 oz jighead and worm on spinning tackle and light line. Maybe the weather will hold and the severe stuff will stay away for Saturday, Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsPartly Cloudy High 60s ReportToday, Glen and I were able to fish for a while, I got called off the lake for a potential storm in the carolinas, but we did enjoy some good weather, air temps that felt like the the high 60s and a light wind under cloudy conditions, The bite was off and on in spells I guess would be the best way to explain, We caught 10 keepers on 3/16 oz jigheads and finesse worms again in various depths from super shallow to 15 foot of water, We did not have a particular pattern, one would come off a point deep, another shallow on a nothing bank and a few here and there around isolated wood, the best 5 went about 9 pounds and not a dominate color worm, it seemed if you got it around a fish no matter the color we would get bit, we did manage to botch about 10 or 12 good bites , but I guess that why it called fishing. Hope to be on the lake next week end, until then God Bless and God Bless!

ConditionsPartly Cloudy low 45 high 62 ReportI had a guest today, David Palmer a friend from over toward montevallo, We launched at wind creek, the air temp for a low was probably in the mid 40s and the high around 62 with moderate winds, just a gorgeous day to fish, The water climbed from about 47 to around 50 , We caught fish on virtually every stop we made, although not big fish but in the 1 1/2 to 2 pound range they were alot of fun. We caught 22 or so, The fish were in various depths on multiple types of structure, everything from wood to rock and some nothing banks, Largemouth bit as well as spots, we caught fish on crawdaddy jigs and on the 3/16 oz spotsticker jighead and finesse worm. I think the fish are going to go crazy if this weather pattern holds. until Saturday Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsPartly Cloudy/Light Wind ReportI launched at wind creek this morning, The air temp around 30 and light wind, fished points and brush piles, had only one bite at 11:30 fishing jighead/worm and dragging a splitshot with a light wire hook. Started going back thru the areas I had hit early and as the water temp went up the bite came a little better, I caught 6 keepers in about 30 minutes, largest about 2 pounds in 14 foot of water off rock/clay point with brush and laydown trees. I caught all the fish on a 3/16 oz jighead with a kudzu finese worm. Good Fishing and God Bless!

I tried throwing a crankbait and spinnerbait some with no takers. went back to the jighead and caught 2 more keepers and missed 4, a very slow bite. took out early for the boat show. i hope the bite gets better before the everstart tour.

ConditionsPartly Cloudy, air temp 40 with a high around 52 ReportI launched at wind creek this morning at about 6:45, the wind was about 10 mph and the air temp around 40. I ran down to Madwind creek after hitting a couple spots around wind creek, the water was clear down there but I probably would have been better suited to stay on the areas I had been fishing, No excuse though I did not execute at all, I missed several fish and had a total of about 10 bites only got two keepers today that were in 12 to 15 feet of water, both fish on the spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead with a finesse worm. Until next time Good Fishing and God Bless and remember the families of the Columbia in our prayers!

ConditionsPartly Cloudy ReportI put in at wind creek this morning, air temp around 25, wind was light. I started out marking some spots with my gps while it was still cold, after completing that task I got started hitting various humps and rock piles, the bite was slow but aggressive when I got hit, I had 8 bites and caught 4 keepers, all spots and all in 15 to 18 foot of water, the 4 fish weighed about 9 pounds due to the one good fish a 4.5 which is probably one of the biggest spots I have ever caught on Martin. I used a 3/16 oz 574 spotsticker jighead and finesse worm to catch all four fish, gourd green was the color choice on spinning tackle with light line. Until next week good fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsCold, partly sunny, Wind ReportI fished the Oxford Bass Club buddy tournament today, My partner and I started up river near the launch (Alex City Public Launch) on some humps and rock piles. The air temp was in the 20s and warmed to about 40 and the wind was around 15 mph I would guess. My partner fished jigs (Various Sizes and colors), crankbaits, and a jighead and worm, I fished the jighead and worm with gourd green being the best color for me. We caught 9 spots total today, My best 5 was 6.56 and my partner had 1 keeper at about 1 pound. Our execution was poor, I missed 8 or 10 bites and Willie missed 4 and lost one good 2 pound or so fish at the boat. it took about 13 pounds to win and I think those guy's said small crankbaits fished shallow was the pattern for them, A couple of fisherman said a jig and pig was the key for them on points. Average weight per angler was about 6 pounds. Big fish was a 4.01 spot. I know for sure it was cold! until next week Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsSunny and Cool ReportI met with a friend from Georgia this morning at wind Creek ,J.R and I started and fished several areas with no bites, fishing jigs and a jighead and worm. The air temp was around 40 and the wind was steady about 15 mph, after the sun warmed up and we found a couple of areas with 47 to 48 degree water the bite picked up, We caught 10 spots on the spotsticker 3/16 head with zoom finesse worms, rock seemed to be the best pattern with some wood around them. We had two fish around 3 pounds and several in the pound and half range, best 5 around 10 pounds. We will give you another report on Saturday evening. Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsCold, mostly sunny ,low in the 20s high in the low 50s ReportThis is my first report for 2003, My seven year old Logan and I went to Martin on a cold morning with light winds, the water in wind creek was stained and the main river at the mouth of elkahatchee creek was also stained, We fished slowly with light tackle (Spinning equipment) a 3/16 oz jighead and finesse worm rigged texas (Alabama Rig) around laydown trees , rock points and submerged trees, the bite was slow but we managed 5 keepers with Logan getting a good 2 pound spot for big fish and starting the new year out right! The best 5 went around 8 pounds. I tried a shad rap and did not get a bite, I went back to the jighead later in the afternoon and picked off several keepers before calling it a day. until next week Good Fishing and God Bless!

Today Glen and I put in at lakeside on 231 and ran down fishing ledges and points, the bite was again tough, Glen had one bite early. It started out cold, I would guess around the upper 20s and as the day progressed it warmed to around 50, the winds were about 10 or so and the water in the main river was a heavy stain. We fished crankbaits and jigheads fron shallow to deep and ended up with 2 keepers, but I want complain, I had 1 spot about a pound on a lucky craft crankbait and Glen whipped me with a good spot that went 5.2 on the berkley digital scales, the fish hit in about 5 foot of water on a rock pile at about 12:15 and was caught on a 3/16 oz jighead and finesse worm (Alabama Rig). and that is about all I can say about today's trip. I fished lake martin today, launched at wind creek, the water clarity was good in wind creek and red mud in the main river, I did not run down so I am not sure where it started to clear, usually down around madwin creek it normally is clearer water. I stayed put in the creek area and fished until about 2;00, the bite was super tough for me, I had for 4 bites and boated 2 , 1 LM and 1 Spot @ about 5 pounds total. The wind was out of the N.W and the high temperature was around 40 degrees. Until Saturday Good Fishing and God Bless!

I ventured back to Logan Martin this morning after watching the weather and decided it may be raining south and east of my local lake, again the bite was slow and christmas came early for me, I only caught 5 fish all were spots and only three would keep but I will take those three any day! For the second time in three days I was fortunate to hook up with a spot over 5 pounds a nice 5 pound 4 ounce fish that bit in the idenical place as the 5.1 that I caught Saturday. I also had two more nice fish with a total of three fish that went 11.9. I am taking a 3/16 jighead and finesse worm and fishing ridges, rock ledges and rock piles, I would take and cast the leadhead to the bank and the let the current move it downstream bunping rock and submerged wood, the fish will just grab hold and start a steady tug, more than anything the light tackle of a medium action rod, spinning reel and 10 pound line will for sure give joy when doing battle with these fish. I did try crankbaits and spinnerbaits thru out the day but only had one bite on a blade and still dont know how we did not hook up! Merry Christmas, God Bless and Happy Birthday Jesus!

Well the trip to Martin derailed, so we went back to Logan Martin putting in at lakeside ,Glen and I ran down river and fished rock ledges and points, The bite was tough, but when you stuck one it was a quality fish, We had three keepers that went about 6 pounds total, the wind was about 10 mph and the water clarity is a heavy stain, the fish bit early and we did not execute at all, missing or loseing about 7 or 8 fish between 7:30 and 8:30 but it still beat working and maybe the rain will hold off and we can try it again Tuesday. The three keepers came on a 3/16 oz jighead and finesse worm and all the bites were in 10 to 15 foot of water. Good Fishing and remember what this holiday is really about! It is good to be back on the lake, after several weeks of bad weather that has kept our company working in North Carolina on ice storms and other situations that did not allow time for fishing. I put in at lakeside on hwy 231 this morning and fished rock ledges down from cropwell, the air temp was in the 30s and the water was alot stained, the bite was slow, I only boated 6 bass, 4 keepers, although it was tough the quality was really good, I had two that was over 4 pounds with the largest a 5.1 spot. The best 4 went a touch over 13 pounds that made for a pretty good day on the lake. I tried a variety of baits but the only one that produced was a 3/16 oz jighead (spotsticker) and gourd geen finesse worm, I would cast to the bank and let the current take it down bumping rock and submerged wood, the fish would just latch on and move off slowly. I am on vacation next week and plan on hitting Martin Monday, until then Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsSunny and about 50 for a high, winds light and variable. ReportPut in at Wind Creek about 7:45 after the Pro's had cleared out and temps had warmed up and fished with Randy Clark, We started in the off limits area again, just wanted to fish until weigh in and stay out of the way, We did run out and go to a few rock piles in several locations. I think all the tournament folks went either way up, in Elkahatchee, or down river toward Koliga, we did not see but a few from wind creek to 280 bridge. Randy and I were able to get 12 keepers all on the finesse stuff and not really any size, best fish was a largemouth about 2 pounds the rest were all spots and alot lean, the fish did bite better than on Friday. We used jigheads and finesse worms on light line and rods and the fish were related more to wood today for us. ConditionsCold and big time Wind ReportI put in at Piney Wood this morning and let the pros clear out of wind creek, watched some fish various places using many different baits an techniques, none that we dont try, cranking, spinnerbaits, spooning, finesse, and some throwing topwater. After watching for a while I went in to the off limits area for the competitors and fished until time for them to weigh in , I was able to catch 5 keepers in wind creek, 4 of them maybe a pound a piece but did have one largemouth that went 4.1 on my digital scales and is probably one of the few largemouth i will catch on Martin this year, the fish was on the end of a laydown in about 17 feet of water. I caught the fish on a green pumpkin finesse worm with the tail dyed orange with spike it. and as you would have guessed all on light tackle and a jighead. Glen is in 20th on the co-angler side , so I will be back Saturday and hope he is able to put together 2 or 3 and climb the ladder. Good Fishing and GOD BLESS

ConditionsCloudy and Cold temps around 50. ReportGlen and I put in at Lakeside on what was a windy cool day with highs that I dont think made it to 50 degrees. We started on rock ledges and points down from Cropwell with spinnerbaits and crankbaits and Glen was able to get a good 2 pound largemouth on a Mid running crankbait. We then went to a the jighead and worm and continued fishing the points and ledges with the wind blowing in on the bank we would cast to the edge and pull it slow trying to maintain contact with the 3/16 oz head, we were able to catch numbers as well as several good spots, the fish were in 8 to 11 foot of water and pretty active, the bite, well you picked up on the rod and the fish was swimming off and all we had to do was give a good hookset. The best 5 fish went between 11 and 12 pounds and the largest at about 3 pounds. All of our fish but one was on the spotsticker jighead with our new 574 long shank hook. Until Next week Good Fishing and God Bless and remember the folks in and Around Carbon Hill ,Alabama in your prayers, as well as the people in other parts of the country that had bad weather last Sunday.

ConditionsPartly Cloudy- High 68 Low 45 ReportMy son Logan and I put in at Wind Creek this morning and Logan got started quick getting a keeper in the first two or three cast and I followed with a keeper a couple minutes later and then the going got tough, I tried some places I like to fish a spinnerbait and topwater and did not have an offer, we then tried some crankbaits around the points, we then decided to go back to what had worked the day before with the light tackle, jighead and finesse stuff and put a keeper in the boat here and there and got a little lucky this afternoon, We went to a couple of brushpiles in 22 foot of water and got 4 bites on consecutive cast and got a couple nice fish, We caught 14 today -12 spots and 2 largemouth and had one fish a little over 2 and 1 about 2 and a total of 8 keepers with 6 that would not keep- best 5 was around 7 pounds. Scot Martin fished with Glen today and came by and took time to take some photos with Logan and I do appreciate him doing that, It meant alot to the young angler. Our fish mostly came on rock piles with planted brush by Alabama Power. Until next week GOOD FISHING AND GOD BLESS! We will have photos posted on the website as soon as I get them developed.

ConditionsSunny and Blue Bird Skies ReportWe put in at wind creek this morning and met a couple of friends at the ramp for a day on the lake. Scott Martin and Randy Clark were my guest, We got started fishing and it was tough, the bite was slow and we needed some wind to help matters, about mid morning we got a good breeze and the bite picked up, We boated 20 bass 18 spots and 2 largemouth , the fish were caught on various baits, 2 on Stryker spinnerbaits , 1 on topwater and 17 on a spotsticker 3/16 oz jighead and worm. Scott had a 3 pound largemouth on the jighead and several nice spots as well Randy boated some good fish, although the bite was slower than normal for martin it was a fairly good day but I dont think fishing was as important as shareing the boat with guy's that trust the lord Jesus Christ as thier savior, Today was indeed a special day for me that I will not soon forget and they are both welcome in my boat and home anytime. Glen is taking Scott and Randy on Saturday and I am going with Logan and we are going to try out the lake martin spots again! Until then Good Fishing and God Bless!

ConditionsRain and wind ReportI was able to meet with a friend from Georgia Bruce Lanier and do some fishing on Logan Martin with the spotsticker jighead and finesse worm, I was not sure what the weather would do to the fish but they are already wet (right) We got started and we hit a lot of stuff quick to give him several ideas and I think we caught a fish on about every stop, we got 11 total with one small fish and the rest would average 2 pounds, all spots in 2 to 8 foot of water. It was wet , but had a blast.

75 daytime high ReportMy son Logan and I put in at lakeside this morning and started with spinnerbaits and topwater with a few short strikes. We then went to our familar ledges and fished the spotsticker and finesse worms picking up keeper fish with no real size, we then hit a rock pile that from 9:00 to about 10:30 has been producing our better fish and they were on it again, getting 7 spots in the 1 3/4 to 2 pound range and then we began hitting some points on the way back up toward cropwell and caught a spot around 31/2 , from there it was back to the flats with a crankbait behind bird island where I figured shad would be stacked, (bet there was 10 shad in the whole pocket) left there with no bites and went up around country club estates where their was some shad and fished a while and every now and then a fish would bust ,we threw a white bandit 100 and caught 5 largemouth and 1 channell cat, the cat was big fish for today about 4 pounds but did get a good largemouth at 3.14 along with a couple of 2 pounders, I think the bite will get a little better as the temps drop some more but it seems that the fish a re getting on the flats and doing there thing, Logan ended up with 5 decent fish and was pretty proud of that, or maybe it was me that was proud! Until next week, good fishing and GOD BLESS!!!!

ConditionsCloudy with Light Rain, Wind at about 10mph ReportI had not been to West Point in about three years and a friend from Birmingham ask me to go over Friday and peck around a few hours to help him prepare for the BFL wildcard, the fish really bit, we boated 16 or so, the majority over 15 inches and a mixed bag of spot and largemouth on a variety of baits from top to bottom, plastics worked well of the finesse type as well as some of the bigger baits.
